Apparently it's a fashion day 'round these parts. My favoritest of favorite men's designers is launching a women's collection for fall '09. What will it be like (please not little boy-ish, please not little boy-ish)?
David Chang, the man behind the Momofuku restaurant empire (we can call it that now, right?) has, from what I've read on the internets, done it again. His Momofuku Bakery and Milk Bar opened today (on 2nd Ave. at 13th...if you don't gots to work, go RIGHT. NOW.). Serious Eatsspecifically Ed Levinealready has pics. I'm dying. My crappy midtown lunch is going to taste so much worse than it normally would.
From top, pork & egg bun, salty pistachio caramel soft serve, and blue cheese foccacia. Many more pics at Serious Eats. And White Lightning has the menu.
In addition to these things, I'll have a brown-butter cinnamon bun (with cheesecake filling!), chorizo challah, cereal milk, a hoisin bun, kimchi butter...
I don't hotly anticipate albums, but this year, there have been a two exceptions: Comme Si de Rien N'Etait from Carla Bruni (the only artist I can say I knew about before everyone else thanks to the movie Conversations with Other Women...Netflix. Now.) and the second release from Taylor Swift, the adorable country crossover girl who wears way too much blue eyeshadow. It "drops" (ugh) Tues.
Now, I know I can't be trusted since I listen to Toby Keith, but she really does have appeal beyond radio stations that play the "National Anthem" at lunch. She doesn't sing about high school graduation and dirt roads, ok? She sings about relationships. Hey, relatable! Until Fearless comes out on 11/11, I'll have to satisfy myself with my faves off her debut:
Over the weekend, I finished reading Supreme Courtship and watched The Candidate. And I feel like come, oh, tomorrow I'm going to experience politics withdrawal that even Rachel Maddow can't cure. What else should I consume when all is said and done and my nerves calm the F down? I need recs, por favor.
Clips from The Candidate. I know we don't need to talk about the appeal of Robert Redford as the outspoken liberal here.
I stumbled upon this card at Someecards this AM...
...After I had tracked the status of the FedEx shipment of my costumed, informed P and D of the status, and called the mail room to make sure I got the box as soon as it arrived. Lame. L-A-M-E.
But, thank f-ing god, my costume has arrived. There was a lot of drama leading up to this, namely that my first order GOT LOST IN THE MAIL. Now, I'm going of this version of Suri.
I know everyone's supposed to be into Showtime right now. But I don't care. Weeds became unwatchable when Nancy became a REAL drug dealer. Armed border crossings? Hi, no. Dexter is too intense for regular viewing. Secret Diary of a Call Girl is only interesting for two episodes. Californication is what every 40-year-old dude wants his life to be like. The L Word is dunzo. This American Life is amazing, but I rarely feel compelled to watch week to week. But, finally, a show I can get behind: United States of Tara. Yes, I have to wait it out 3 mo. for this lil puppy to come on air (Jan. 18! Mark that Tivo!), but in the dead of winter I'll be glad to have itand in the meantime I have Rachel Maddow to keep me cozy. And stuffed animals.
Now, to be fair, this project is like hype's wet dream: The man behind the idea is Steven Spielberg! Who brought in I-totes-know-teenagers-oh-my-gawd Diablo Cody (Juno) to write! And it's about a woman with multiple personality disorder! Gimmick alert. But it's actually smart and funny. Then again, it's hard not to like Toni Collette and John Corbett (Aidan!). The trailer:
Freaking out. This fall is going to be the best reality TV season EVER. First, Top Chef season 5 is on in Nov. Apparently the contestants frequent my Whole Foods? Too bad I don't go enough to have a shot at any sightings. Then, there's Stylista, the CW show (premieres 10/22) wherein a buncha kids compete for a fashion asst. job at Elle. In the preview, they say things like, "I'd give my left ARM for that positionnot even kidding."
Hi, Joe Zee!
But wait. K told me yesterday about the VH1 trash fest Scream Queens. Chick compete for the lead role in Saw VI because once you get that role you are totes a celebrity. Cause you know the stars of all of the Saw movies, right? Right? Exactly. But here's the ticket: A girl T dated (or something) is a contestant. YES. Amazingness. Maybe they'll do Scream Queens: Charm School after?
On the cover of W. Shot by Brad. Breastfeeding. Ok, geniusness, but whymight I askdoes she kinda look like Melanie Griffith? When did her lips get like that? Maybe I'm used to her only smiling with her eyes.
FOX is finally trying to make good on the fact that it canceled Arrested Development. And this has nothing to do with the on-again, off-again movie or, unfortunately, Buster: Come Jan., another Mitchell Hurwitz comes back with a CARTOON (am I supposed to call it an animated series?), Sit Down, Shut Up, about a school with dysfunctional teachers. I mean, from what I've heard from teacher friends, this could be pretty much aannnnny school, but Will Arnett is doing one of the voices, so an exciting level of fucked-up-ness is to be expected. EXCITED. Excited, excited.
It took me until 2008 to realize that writing things on the internet doesn't (necessarily) make you the most annoying person in the universe. Then my friend had a dream that I had a blog where I posted a photo of myself in an orange sequined dress. Hot.
