Because This Needed to Happen.

I saw a trailer for The Spirit over the weekend, and all I could think was: Samuel L. Jackson, what are you doing? Why are you sooooo opposed to playing a character (just one!) that is vaguely believable or likable? No, instead—for the past ten years (not an exaggeration)—you've been playing caricatures of caricatures. There's Lakeview Terrace (out now) where you take away the sheer joy of watching Patrick Wilson traipse across a screen by being a total, flat, douche. Then there's Black Snake Moan, Coach Carter, Unbreakable. And while I'm sure people will love Frank Miller's next movie, it helps when the people in it don't always go the looney tunes route—hence giving the film some credibility. Seriously: The last time Mr. Snakes on a Plane played a character with any depth was in 1996 as Carl Lee Hailey in A Time to Kill. Let's reminisce:

Wait! This might just be the last time Matthew McConaughey took an interesting role too! No...I'm forgetting Fool's Gold.
