Where It's At

T and I saw Beck last night—obviously this was his doing since my musical taste is not what you'd call dynamite—and, OMG, junior high flashback. Most of the people there were Columbia University grad students, which makes sense due to 1) the 175th and B'way location of United Palace and 2) the "let's bring a joint and wear flannel!" nostalgia factor. And then, MY FRIENDS, Mr. Hansen opened with "Loser" and closed with "Where It's At." (I don't really consider encores...by that time, I'm waiting to leave.)

From Interscope
He looked like this. With a hat and pretty, flowy hair. And he got me thinking: What other nineties alternative acts are still relevant now? As in, they still put out music that people talk/care about? There's Radiohead (duh), and T said Pearl Jam and Flaming Lips maybe...Pharrell? I'm definitely missing some, but there aren't many.

for some reason i just keep thinking of 311...which obviously does not fit into this category but keeps making me laugh every time i think about them...and what it would look like if they had a concert today

well, they are apparently going to be included in Guitar Hero: World Tour, so maybe the ARE still relevant.
